If the pre-season projections are to be believed, then Saturday’s battle between Everton and Nottingham Forest is an early Premier League relegation six-pointer at Goodison Park.
Everton are desperate not to lose a third straight match to start the Premier League season after dropping results to Chelsea (1-0) and Aston Villa (2-1). That’s not happened since 1990.
While rumors swirl regarding a potential transfer of Everton star attacker Anthony Gordon to Chelsea, Toffees supporters will be hoping that newcomer Amadou Onana can provide a boost to the struggling side.
Newly promoted Nottingham Forest are riding high, boosted by last week’s inspired 1-0 win over West Ham and a host of new signings made this week, headlined by a deal for Morgan Gibbs-White that could reach £42.5 million ($50m). Several of the newcomers will be on the bench for the match.

100 mins from kickoff: It’s been a while since these two teams met in a competitive match. The last time was January 1999, when Nottingham Forest beat Everton 1-0 at Goodison. That was one of only eight all-time Forest victories in the top division.

120 mins from kickoff: How about this for some added intrigue for this match? Everton reportedly tried to hijack the much-discussed Morgan Gibbs-White deal at the last minute.
Late drama on the Morgan Gibbs-White deal. Everton were pushing very hard to hijack it last night and matched the £25m fee paid by Forest. Ultimately, MGW wanted to play for Steve Cooper again and deal with Forest too far down the line. Forest play Everton on Saturday.. #nffc

Everton vs. Nottingham Forest lineups
Everton manager Frank Lampard will have to do without midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure (hamstring) for a few weeks, and it’s Tom Davies who earns the call to replace him over Amadou Onana.
Allan is back on the bench, but key players remain out: Dominic Calvert-Lewin (knee), Yerry Mina (ankle ligaments), and Ben Godfrey (fractured fibula). Dele Alli’s move to Besiktas reportedly only needs his sign-off, but he’s still on the bench against Forest.
Everton starting lineup (3-4-3, right to left): 1-Jordan Pickford (GK) — 4-Mason Holgate, 30-Conor Coady, 2-James Tarkowski — 3-Nathan Patterson, 26-Tom Davies, 17-Alex Iwobi, 19-Vitaliy Mykolenko — 11-Demarai Gray, 33-Salomon Rondon, 10-Anthony Gordon
Everton subs (9): 15-Asmir Begovic (GK), 23-Seamus Coleman, 5-Michael Keane, 8-Amadou Onana, 6-Allan, 25-Jean-Philippe Gbamin, 20-Dele Alli, 29-Ruben Vinagre, 7-Dwight McNeil
Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has several of his big signings on the bench, but none will start. The injury that forced Moussa Niakhate off the field last week has ruled him out with Steve Cook taking his place. Jack Colback (illness) will miss the match, but Ryan Yates is back available on the bench.
Nottingham Forest starting lineup (3-4-3, right to left): 1-Dean Henderson (GK) — 4-Joe Worrall, 3-Steve Cook, 26-Scott McKenna — 7-Neco Williams, 14-Lewis O’Brien, 5-Orel Mangala, 15-Harry Toffolo — 20-Brennan Johnson, 9-Taiwo Awoniyi 11-Jesse Lingard
Nottingham Forest subs (9): 13-Wayne Hennessey (GK), 2-Giulian Biancone, 22-Ryan Yates, 23-Remo Freuler, 21-Cheikhou Kouyate, 17-Alex Mighten, 16-Sam Surridge, 25-Emmanuel Dennis, 10-Morgan Gibbs-White
