FIFA 23 incorrectly listed for bargain price with EA Sports to honour ‘spectacular own-goal’

A number of football fans have managed to pre-order FIFA 23 for just six cents after a “spectacular own-goal” from EA Sports.

In July, the upcoming videogame was listed incorrectly on the Epic Games Store in India.

An error in currency conversion saw the FIFA 23 Ultimate Edition made temporarily available for pre-order at the low price of ₹4.80 (US$0.06) instead of ₹4,799 ($60).

Fans in India and abroad were quick to make the most of the error and shared their success on social media.

To their credit, EA Sports have since owned up to the mistake and declared they’ll be honouring the previous price for those that were able to cash in.

“A few weeks back, we scored a pretty spectacular own-goal when we inadvertently offered FIFA 23 pre-purchase on the Epic Games Store at an incorrect price,” EA Sports said via a statement cited by PC Gamer

“It was our mistake, and we wanted to let you know that we’ll be honoring all pre-purchases made at that price.”

The Standard Edition will cost $59.99 (£59.99), consistent with most major video game releases.

The Ultimate Edition will cost $99.99 (£89.99), but allows the user to access the game three days earlier on the pre-release date. It also comes with the following:

Benefits Standard Ultimate
Team of the Week 1 Player item (untradeable) ✔️ ✔️

FUT Ambassador Loan Player Pick ✔️ ✔️
Career Mode Homegrown Talent ✔️ ✔️

The Legacy Edition will cost $39.99 (£34.99) and is a call-back to previous versions, featuring updated rosters, but “without any new development or significant enhancements,” EA Sports confirmed.

This is mainly for the Nintendo Switch, which only comes in Legacy Edition. It will not come with the new HyperMotion 2 technological enhancements or any of the new gameplay modes. Essentially, this is FIFA 22 with a few minor upgrades.
