A mum has shared her go-to hack for getting the ‘perfect’ poached eggs ready for a slap-up weekend breakfast and claims it will take you less than one minute to try for yourself

There’s nothing like a round of beautifully poached eggs on a couple of slices of hot buttered toast, with this dish being an ideal treat for a lazy Saturday morning. We all have our go-to recipes for making our poached eggs as golden and as delicious as humanly possible, however, one mum believes she’s now found the ‘perfect’ formula.
Influencer and jewellery designer Dana Gordon recently shared a clip of her mum whipping up a plate of poached eggs in a matter of mere seconds. This recipe is understood to be her ‘favourite hack she’s learned on TikTok’, and she’s said to be ‘obsessed’ by it.
In the clip, shared via Dana’s TikTok username @danarebeccadesigns, Dana’s mum could be seen breaking an egg into a small pyrex bowl, before adding just enough water to cover the yolk. She then popped the bowl in the microwave for 44 seconds.
Taking the bowl out of the microwave and gently lifting the egg onto a plate for Dana to taste, Dana’s mum said: “Here it comes, the perfect poached egg.”
After trying the satisfyingly runny-looking egg for herself, Dana made noises of approval, enthusing, ‘good that!”

One impressed follower applauded: “Just tried it after watching this and they came out great! Fast and easy. Thank you as well.”
Another commented: “We cook them this way all the time since seeing it last week on a different TikTok.”
A third wrote: Not bad. I mix mine up and nuke it 45 seconds in a short round container. Perfectly cooked and shaped like McDs.”
Other followers however weren’t exactly won over by the egg hack, telling tales of exploding eggs and ‘awful messes’ left in microwaves. One woman reported she’d tried the hack three times, only to be left with an explosion to clear up every time.
This hack has been branded dangerous by some and has previously resulted in some reported injuries. Back in 2021, a man named Gary McDougall attempted to poach an egg inside the microwave but ended up with severe burns when it burst across his eyes, cheek, and nose.
In a video shared to TikTok at the time, Gary urged others not to try the hack, warning: “Well I’ve done it a hundred million times and last night it didn’t quite go to plan.
“This is not a TikTok for sympathy or to get any messages or that, I will get better soon. I’m not made of glass. Just be careful if that’s what you do because sometimes it goes wrong. Be careful alright, don’t poach eggs in the microwave.”
