Google’s Nest Hub Sleep Sensing will be free for another year, the company has quietly revealed.
9To5Google noticed(Opens in a new window) that the Nest Hub’s Google Store product page(Opens in a new window) had been updated to read Sleep Sensing is “free through 2023,” replacing “free through 2022.”
When the second-gen Nest Hub launched in March 2021, Sleep Sensing was offered as a free trial through 2021, at which point Google had planned to turn it into a paid service via Fitbit Premium (which costs $9.99 per month). After the free trial was extended through 2022, however, that now looks like it will happen in 2024.
Using the Soli motion sensor, the Sleep Sensing software can monitor your sleep across different sleep stages (Awake, REM, Light, and Deep) as well as register whether you were snoring or coughing over the course of a night.
The sensor can detect movements such as rolling over, going to the bathroom, and even breathing. Sleep Sensing also tracks sounds and light changes that impact and potentially disrupt sleep, and gives users the option of a room temperature readout. This is all done without the need for a camera or wearing a watch.
