- An unprovoked attack put a birthday girl and her friend in a hospital.
The New York City subway can be a weird place. But even then, you wouldn’t expect a gang of green goblins to attack while riding the trains.
But that’s what happened to two teenage girls. A group of women dressed in ridiculous neon green bodysuits attacked and robbed them while riding the subway.
The women — whom local media have dubbed the Green Goblin Gang — gave the two 19-year-olds a brutal beating before walking off the train. As a result, both young women have had to seek medical attention for head injuries and other ailments.
“She said she was attacked by aliens, and I didn’t know what she was talking about,” the mother of one of the victims told the New York Post.
Unprovoked Attack
The bizarre attack happened on October 2. According to the girls’ mothers, their daughters did nothing to provoke the attack.
According to the victims’ accounts, they were standing on an N train platform at Times Square around 2 a.m. on Sunday night. The group of green-clad women came down the stairs to the same platform, reportedly acting “loud and obnoxious”
“There were no words exchanged prior. In police footage I’ve seen, you could see that my daughter and her friend were standing on the platform talking and laughing,” the mother said.
As the train arrived, one of them bumped into one of the two girls. According to one of the mothers, her daughter suggested that they go to a different carriage — and that’s what the duo did.
But as the train left the platform, the goblin gang pushed through a door separating the different carriages. And then things got violent.
“They just jumped. My daughter’s words were, they bum-rushed them,” one of the mothers recalled.
A video posted on social media shows a part of the attack. Just a note, don’t watch that if you don’t want to see two girls get brutalized.
The group of six to ten women repeatedly punched the girls in the face and tossed them around the carriage. The victims were also kicked in the head while they were on the ground.
Reportedly, one of the attackers also had a knife strapped to her leg. Fortunately, the weapon didn’t get used during the fight.
As the train stopped at the next station, the attackers took off. But before they did, they stole a cell phone, credit cards, and a wallet from the victims.
‘Excruciating Pain’
The girls refused medical attention at the scene following the attack. However, their mothers say that both have not gone to the hospital due to their injuries.
“[My daughter] was home from college. Now she’s getting chest X-rays and CAT scans. She was supposed to be back in school this morning, but [not now] because of her injuries from being stomped in the head by 10 grown-ass women,” one of the mothers said.
According to her mother, one of the girls has bruises all over her body from being punched in the stomach and getting her legs stomped on. There’s also a bruised teeth mark on her shoulder where one of the attackers bit her.
“She’s in excruciating pain. When she breathes, it hurts,” the mother said.
The other victim didn’t get off any easier. According to her mother, she was vomiting the night following the attack due to a concussion and is now getting a CAT scan on her head.
No Help from Anybody
What irks both mothers potentially the most is the fact that nobody seemed to want to help them. There were plenty of people in the carriage — but none lifted a finger.
“They [shoot] video instead of calling 911. It’s so disturbing for me as a mother that this is the world we live in,” one of the mothers said.
“My daughter is literally getting beat while all these bystanders just stood there. Maybe the police would’ve gotten there faster if someone called 911.”
According to the NYPD, the green-clad gang escaped the subway and they haven’t yet been found. The cops may have some clues, though — they said one of the victim’s mothers has found the attackers’ social media profiles.
“This is how [my daughter] spent her 19th birthday. I hope they get what they deserve and then some because it’s disgusting,” one of the mothers said.
“Animals belong behind bars. Make an example of them.”
