A hit-and-run driver was caught because the collision imprinted his truck’s license number on the back of the victim’s car, Roseville police say.
The crash happened at 6:20 p.m. on Sept. 6, on Roseville Parkway adjacent to the Ridge at Creekside shopping center in the Sacramento suburb, the police report said. A BMW sedan was hit from behind by a Ford F-250 pickup, whose driver then fled the scene.
The BMW’s driver was taken to a hospital with injuries called non-life-threatening.
Police investigating the damage realized that the reversed numbers from the truck’s front plate were legible on the back of the BMW. They went to the Roseville address associated with the registration, 2½ miles from the crash site, and found a pickup with corresponding damage.
Its owner, a 33-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence causing injury, felony hit-and-run and resisting arrest.
Shortly before the crash, police in neighboring Rocklin had received a complaint about the same pickup being driven recklessly.
