Each year, fans of classic Christmas movie Home Alone are struck by the apparent resemblance between a bearded extra and a famous face leading to a bizarre conspiracy about the film

Few films are more Christmassy than Home Alone which – despite the wince-inducing violence of the third act – continues to delight families year after year. There are those however who believe a bizarre secret lurks beneath the snowfall and twinkly soundtrack, glimpsed in a scene set at Scranton airport.
Home Alone fans will no doubt recall the moment when Kevin’s mum Kate, played by Catherine O’Hara, loses her temper with an airport employee, swearing she would sell her soul ‘to the devil himself’ in order to get home to her left-behind son. Despite the theatrical speech, a silent, bearded extra in the queue behind Kate completely steals the scene, a man who bears an uncanny resemblance to Elvis Presley.

Indeed, some believe this unnamed character is played by Elvis himself – despite the rock icon having passed away some 13 years before the 1990 festive hit.
Although the extra sports a full beard, a number of viewers have noted certain similarities in his facial features – especially around the eyes – and claim this as ‘evidence’ that ‘the king’ was still alive and well in the early 1990s.
Spotting this supposedly mysterious figure has become just as much a part of the Home Alone viewing experience as shouting ‘Kevin!’ out loud during that iconic plane scene. This year, once again, viewers have taken to social media to share their puzzling theories.

Taking to Twitter, one adamant person declared: “Nothing anyone can say to me can ever convince me that this dude in the background of a shot in Home Alone isn’t Elvis.”
While another wrote: “There’s only one conspiracy theory I believe in and it’s that the actor who stood behind Kevin’s mother in the Home Alone airport scene is Elvis Presley.”
However, not everyone seems so sure, with a different user sarcastically posting: “Yep, Elvis secretly faked his own passing and eventually snuck into the filming of Home Alone, with nobody ever noticing.”
In the director’s commentary of Home Alone, star Macaulay Culkin and director Chris Columbus can be seen chuckling over the theory, suggesting they don’t hold too much stock in it.
Elvis Presley sadly passed away from a heart attack on August 16th, 1977, at the age of just 42 years old.
This hasn’t stopped fans from reporting various alleged sightings in the years since, with some believing him to have somehow faked his own death and gone into hiding.
