The sister wants a childfree wedding – except for nieces and nephews who are allowed – but her brother is furious that his stepdaughter has not made the cut so he has decided to stand against it and not attend

A man is refusing to go to his sister’s wedding after she revealed that his stepdaughter would not be invited. The man took to Reddit to explain that he has two daughters, one biological who is six and one stepdaughter who is 14.
He explained: “My sister has been planning her wedding. I’m the best man. She wanted my biological daughter to be her flowergirl and our nephews are both involved. They want a childfree wedding, but made an exception for every niece and nephew aside from my stepdaughter.”
He continued by saying he thought it would be fine not having her in the wedding party but thought she should at least be able to come as she was her brother’s stepdaughter.

He said: “I tried to talk to my sister about it, but it’s gone poorly.
“She thinks it’s fine, that my stepdaughter doesn’t have a role so there no reason to bring her, that she doesn’t want more children at the wedding, that she ‘barely knows’ her so it’s ‘not the same’ as my biological daughter.”
Therefore, his stepdaughter would have to stay home home while him and the rest of the family are at the wedding, which has angered him as he does not agree with his sister at all.
As a result, he decided to announce that he would not be involved in the wedding either.
“I told my sister that if she excludes her, my biological daughter and I won’t be coming. She’s furious about me not supporting her, losing the flowergirl and best man and thinks I’m being selfish,” he stated.
“I’ve tried to avoid fighting over it and to just repeat that I won’t attend and stay out of it, but my sister is furious and my parents and brother have been badgering me about it as well.”
Many have been quick to support the man with many saying she should be able to come.

One person wrote: “‘No children’ is fine. ‘No children except nieces and nephews’ is fine but ‘no children except nieces and nephews but not including that one’ is ridiculously arbitrary and just plain nasty.”
While another wrote: “And presumably, no children is to ensure they’re aren’t screaming kids during the ceremony… Which I’m thinking a 14 year old kid sit quietly for a ceremony. Your parents are right; it is her choice. And you can choose not to attend.”
