‘I ordered an £82 wedding dress and veil from Shein and it was far from what I expected’

A woman who bought a wedding dress and veil from Shein for just £82 was left stunned when her package arrived – as it wasn’t at all what she was expecting to receive

Buying a wedding dress is no easy task, and many brides will spend a fortune securing the gown of their dreams from a boutique that specialises in the once-in-a-lifetime frocks.

Although most brides will pick up their wedding dresses after a lengthy process of trying different styles, that doesn’t mean you have to do that, as you can take a risk a buy one online instead, usually for a fraction of the cost.

That’s exactly what one woman online did when she spent just $100 (£82) on a flowing white gown and matching veil from fast fashion retailer Shein – and was left stunned when she opened the package.

Miranda Anderson, a wedding photographer from Canada, said she bought the dress for a photoshoot she was holding in Costa Rica, and said that while she would normally never support the fast fashion brand, she had no other choice because there were no wedding dress boutiques near the location of her shoot.

She expected the dress to fall flat in comparison to the gowns she usually has her models wear, but was blown away when she tried the garment on, as the flattering leg split and floaty sleeves really looked the part.

In a video posted to her @mirandandersonphoto account on TikTok, she said: “I ordered a wedding dress from Shein, let’s see how it turned out.

“First of all, I need to explain that I don’t usually order from Shein, I don’t support it. But I’m doing a styled shoot in Costa Rica and where I’m doing it, there are literally no bridal boutiques close enough to collaborate with. I don’t have a car to go and pick it up and bring it [to the shoot].”

Miranda then put the dress on, and exclaimed that “nobody is going to be able to tell” that she ordered it online instead of buying it from a dedicated boutique.

The photographer also explained that buying a cheap dress was perfect for the photoshoot because it means her model will be able to go into the sea and “trash the dress”, whereas renting one from a boutique would have meant being careful not to damage it in any way.

She added: “Another reason why I ordered the dress from Shein is that now my model can just trash the dress and go in the water with it and stuff. When you rent from bridal places you have to be so careful with wedding dresses, obviously, because they’re thousands of dollars, but this was literally $100.”

Alongside the dress, Miranda bought a matching veil that came decorated with small beads that looked like pearls.

Commenters on the video were also blown away by how good the dress looked, with many saying they also bought wedding dresses or other parts of their bridal outfit from Shein and were so happy with the results.

One person said: “My dress was also from Shein and I could not be happier!”

While another added: “Wow, so cool!”

And a third wrote: “It’s stunning.”
