Photo editing apps using AI technology have gone viral on social media for transforming people’s selfies into anime avatars and fairy princesses.
While they have controversially been slammed by artists and have been criticised for ‘white-washing’ people of colour, one woman claims she is now making a fortune from her edited pictures thanks to men with fetishes for seeing her as historical characters – especially as a Viking.
Ruby Rose, 23, of London, quit her job at Tesco four years ago to create adult content full-time. She’d always been into cosplay and fancy dress, so decided to turn it into a career when she realised how much money she could make by selling photos of herself posing in quirky outfits.
But amid the recent viral trend of digital portraits with app Lensa and MyHeritage’s AI Time Machine tool, Ruby has found a new niche and claims she’s now earning £30,000 weekly – or £7k on a good day.

Her best-selling snaps are of her as a Viking or an Egyptian goddess.
While those time periods have proved most popular, her weirdest request was to pose for an AI of one of Henry VIII’s wives, while another 60s-inspired snap earned her a whopping £1.5k.
“It’s the best thing I’ve ever done,” Ruby, who joined site Fanvue last year, told the Mirror.
“I’ve always been one of those girls who loves getting dressed up, having fun and talking to people so it just seemed to make sense.
“It was scary at first – I was scared of leaving my job to be a full-time content creator but in reality, it just meant I could really go for it.”
Ruby had no idea how popular the AI pics would be, and initially just posted a few as a joke, but they quickly caught on.
“I was just playing around and posted a few as a joke to see what people thought and they loved it,” she explained.
“That’s what spurred me on to start playing around with other apps too. The historical one is absolutely hilarious.

“I’ve always loved putting on personas and I ask my fans to send me costumes and toys they want me to wear or experiment with – it’s something I was previously making most of my revenue from.
“So the AI generator definitely tickled my fancy the second I saw it – it’s like a digital costume.”
She experiments with all types of figures and she reckons she’s opened up a new fetish.
“I never in a million years thought it would be this mental but they [her fans] are absolutely gagging for it, I can’t keep up,” Ruby said.
“I just take the requests and give them what they want. They’re not even requests, they’re demands for them.
“I feel like I’ve opened up this entirely new fetish and it’s something that would have never been able to be done before”.
Ruby charges £25 a month for a subscription and anywhere between £50 and £2,000 for a single piece of content.

“On a good day I can make £7k in a day,” she adds.
“I just love being able to experiment with content. I definitely think that’s what’s helped me earn a reputation for myself in the industry.”
Ruby won’t stop with her cosplay or car content but she’s going to keep playing around with apps and technology to see where it goes, saying it’s opened up an entirely new revenue stream for her.
“I don’t think my normal real-life content will be banished to the history books, but there’s no doubt I’ve been able to reach a different audience and grow revenue through AI,” she said.
“I definitely think there’s a market for it and will see it grow and evolve over the next few months.”
The adult content industry is estimated to be worth around $4 billion, according to Forbes.
