Going on a first date is always a bit nerve-wracking, especially in the age of online dating, where a first date can also be the first time you’ve ever met face-to-face.
But one woman has been left gobsmacked after a recent first date with a man she met online uncovered a bizarre dinner habit, as the bloke decided to order a glass of milk with his meal.
The woman said she was left “feeling a bit yuck” after seeing her date’s weird drink choice, as she said it was an “odd” thing to order at a restaurant in general, and especially so for a first date.

In a post on Mumsnet, she said: “I went on a first date with a guy I met online last night, and went out for dinner. When I got there, I definitely found him attractive. However, when it came to ordering drinks he ordered himself a glass of milk.
“I’ve honestly never come across someone doing that in a restaurant and I just think it’s really odd and really put me off him. I have tried to work out why this was such a turn-off and I can’t come up with a reason it just made me feel a bit yuck.
“Am I being unreasonable? It’s just so odd on a first date I feel.”
Commenters on the post were equally as baffled by the man’s bizarre drink choice, as many of them said it was “childlike” to order milk in a restaurant, as it’s often a drink associated with small children.
One person said: “It’s childlike. Would put me off too!”
While another added: “It is a bit strange. Not really what you’d have as a first choice with an adult meal! More like something you’d give a child to have with an apple.”
And a third wrote: “I think it depends where you were and what you were eating – maybe with curry it isn’t that odd, equally burger and milkshake is acceptable so milk isn’t a massive step if he doesn’t like the texture of a thick milkshake. Fancy restaurant having steak or pasta then milk is a bit weird!”
But not everyone found the drink order strange, with many saying they’d sooner go on a date with someone who orders milk than alcohol.
Someone said: “Wouldn’t bother me. Better than ordering alcohol. Green flag from me!”
As someone else noted: “I’d rather a sober date than a p***ed-up date. Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest.”
