Ikea, Sonos Reveal New Symfonisk Floor Lamp Speaker

Three years after launching the first Symfonisk smart lamp and smart speaker, Ikea and Sonos unveiled a new uplighter model.

The Symfonisk floor lamp overcomes two of the biggest challenges of arranging speakers: finding space and blending in with your decor.

“The challenge of not having enough room for a table to put the lamp on led us to create the floor lamp,” Ikea range design leader Stjepan Begic said in a statement.

Simple and sleek, the Symfonisk floor lamp speaker fits the Ikea aesthetic, with its matte black base, slim rods, and bamboo shade—the latter which can be swapped out for different options in the same range (purchased separately). Users can control the lamp via their Ikea Home smart app, and even pair it with other Symfonisk and Sonos products to create an immersive home theater setup.

“The Symfonisk floor lamp speaker is a great example of how our collaboration continues to challenge the traditional idea of sound in the home,” according to Sara Lincoln, principal product manager at Sonos.

“We created the floor lamp speaker to sound great on its own but also to be versatile,” Lincoln added. “It works seamlessly with all our Sonos speakers and is a great option for those who are looking to add rear speakers to their home theatre set up, when paired with our soundbars.”

The Symfonisk smart home device lineup, introduced in 2019, combines Sonos’ Wi-Fi music-streaming technology and Ikea’s modern design philosophy to create products like the original Symfonisk—a simple table lamp with a wireless speaker built into the fabric-wrapped base. The collaboration also includes the Symfonisk Wi-Fi Bookshelf Speaker and Symfonisk Picture Frame with Wi-Fi Speaker.

The new Symfonisk floor lamp speaker will be available in all Ikea markets starting in January.
