- Drinking spirits live for a challenge got this influencer killed. Don’t do internet challenges.
Sanqiange, 35, was on China’s ‘TikTok’ called Douyin on May 16 and drinking spirits live was his last broadcast. Also known as Brother Three Thousand, he’s been banned from the platform previously after drinking during live streams.
A friend said that, “Sanqiange – whose real surname is said to be Wang – had taken part in a ‘PK’ challenge against another influencer.” After four one-on-one battles, he lost three of the rounds.
As ‘punishment’ he drank bottles of Baiju, drinking the spirits live. The spirit is strong and contains up to 60% alcohol. People watching said the influencer drank at least seven bottles of the spirits live while online.
His funeral was Saturday.
“I don’t know how much he had consumed before I tuned in. But in the latter part of the video, I saw him finish three bottles before starting on a fourth,” the friend, identified only as Zhao, said.
“The PK games ended at around 1 a.m. and by 1 p.m., (when his family found him) he was gone,” he added.
This isn’t the first challenge seriously harming and killing people. Earlier in the year, Jacob Stevens, 13, died after taking part in the ‘Benadryl Challenge’ on TikTok. Similar to drinking spirits live, Jacob took mass amounts of Benadryl.
The Benadryl Challenge involves participants ingesting six
times the recommended dose of antihistamines to induce hallucinations. Jacob’s father, Justin, was devastated when he learned that his son would never wake up.
“It was too much for his body,” the father said. “No brain scan, there was nothing there.”
“They said we could keep him on the vent, that he could lay there — but he will never open his eyes, he’ll never breathe, smile, walk or talk.”
Don’t drink tons of spirits live, it is not safe.
