While Christmas Day is behind us now, some avid money-savers are already preparing for next year’s celebrations as they venture through the extended Boxing Day sales. Hoping to save some extra cash on her Christmas gifts, a woman has been branded a “Grinch” by her husband.
Sharing her concerns to popular forum Mumsnet, the woman questioned whether she was being unreasonable for shopping in the reduced section. Wondering whether people would take offence, she captioned her post: ” Am I being unreasonable to buy gifts for next Christmas in this sale?”
She explained: “I have picked up a few gifts to give people next year. Nothing special, just the reduced homeware and such.”

The woman went on: “My husband thinks I’m being a tight Grinch. I probably am, but I have a big family and lots of people to buy for and it stresses me out.
“He has three to buy for and I have 12 (adults and children) so he doesn’t ‘get’ it.
“Am I being a Grinch getting stuff now intended for next year’s Christmas?” She asked.
The woman continued: “I thought it was more money savvy but he thinks I’m stingy and I’m surfing the fun out of gift giving.
“I must admit, I had fun and I still picked things I think people will like (silly card game for the ones who like them, an apron for the one who bakes etc, candles for the one who like candles).
“I’m just saving about 70% of the money and I don’t have to panic next year!
“Anyone else do it or would you be offended?” She questioned.
Flocking to the comment section, Mumsnet users assured the woman that the idea was in fact “very sensible”.
One person wrote: “Absolutely wouldn’t mind at all!”
“Sounds very sensible to me,” a second added.
A third agreed: “I think it’s sensible. I regularly pick up stocking fillers, decorations and pyjamas/slippers in the January sales.”
