Joe Burrow Ranks Fourth on Bengals’ All-time Passing List

Date:

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow advanced to fourth place on the franchise’s all-time passing yardage list during the team’s NFL Week 8 game against the Tennessee Titans on November 1, 2026, at Paycor Stadium. This achievement places Burrow prominently on the Bengals’ passing list, while a rookie defensive end also sustained an injury during the same contest.

Burrow began the game needing 232 yards to move past former Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer. He achieved this milestone with a 9-yard pass completed to Dohnte Meyers in the fourth quarter. Palmer had accumulated 22,694 passing yards during his 97 games across seven seasons with the Cincinnati franchise.

Currently in his seventh season with the Bengals, this game marked Burrow’s 84th NFL appearance. Only three quarterbacks now stand ahead of him in the team’s all-time passing yards: Ken Anderson, who leads with 32,838 yards; Andy Dalton, with 31,594 yards; and Boomer Esiason, who holds 27,149 yards.

Burrow’s recent performance continues a trajectory of significant accomplishments. He concluded the 2025 regular season by setting a Bengals’ single-season record of 4,918 passing yards, which led the entire league. In 2024, he also surpassed 15,000 career passing yards in a game against Carolina, tying him for fourth place among the fastest quarterbacks in NFL history to reach that mark.

Rookie Defensive End Suffers Injury

During the same Week 8 matchup against the Tennessee Titans, Bengals rookie defensive end Cashius Howell sustained an injury. Yahoo Sports reported that Howell left the field and went to the locker room with trainers during the third quarter. By the fourth quarter, the Bengals officially declared him out for the remainder of the game.

Howell, a 6-foot-2, 253-pound player from Texas A&M, was the Bengals’ first selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, taken as the 41st overall pick in the second round. Before joining Texas A&M for two seasons, Howell spent his initial three collegiate seasons at Bowling Green. He was also a Texas A&M teammate of Shemar Stewart.

The rookie defensive end was part of a notable defensive line trio, dubbed the ‘three-man Sexy Dexy,’ alongside Boye Mafe and Dexter Lawrence II, following Lawrence’s fourth-quarter sack against Baltimore. Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence was acquired by the Bengals in a trade with the Giants for the 10th pick of the first round. Shemar Stewart, who initially wore No. 97 as a rookie, later gave the number to Lawrence.

Historical Context and Player Trajectories

Joe Burrow’s ascension on the Bengals’ all-time passing list represents a significant achievement within the franchise’s history. Surpassing a notable player like Carson Palmer, who also spent seven seasons with the team, highlights Burrow’s impact and consistency in a relatively short span. The quarterbacks still ahead of him—Ken Anderson, Andy Dalton, and Boomer Esiason—are long-standing legends of the franchise, setting a high bar for future milestones.

For international fans of American football, such statistical achievements underscore the competitive nature of the NFL and the individual talent required to excel. While these records are specific to a single team, they contribute to the broader narrative of player legacies and ongoing rivalries that attract a global viewership. The performance of key players like Burrow often influences team dynamics and fan engagement worldwide, making such milestones a point of interest for a diverse international audience tracking the league’s developments.

As the NFL season progresses, attention will likely remain on Joe Burrow’s continued pursuit of the top spots on the Bengals’ passing list, as well as the recovery of rookie defensive end Cashius Howell and his potential future contributions to the team. The outcomes of such individual player milestones and health setbacks can significantly shape the trajectory of a team’s season.
