Joey Bosa injury update: Chargers’ pass-rusher placed on IR with groin injury

Injuries continue to pile up early in the 2022 season for the Chargers.

EDGE Joey Bosa had to leave Sunday’s game against the Jaguars in the first quarter with an injury, and did not return. He was later ruled out of the contest.

Bosa had been trying to rush Trevor Lawrence, but slipped as he was trying to get around the edge. He laid on the ground as medical staff came over to look at him, and he walked with a limp on the sideline.

Bosa is a major force in the team’s defense. He has already forced a fumble this year with 1.5 sacks, two tackles for loss and six combined tackles. He has been named to three straight Pro Bowls and was the 2016 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Joey Bosa injury update

Bosa is going to be out for a bit. On Wednesday, coach Brandon Staley told reporters Bosa would be placed on the injured reserve after undergoing surgery for his groin injury.

Staley said he expects Bosa will return during the 2022 campaign.

On Sunday, the Chargers announced on Twitter that Bosa had been ruled for the rest of Sunday’s contest against the Jaguars with a groin injury.

Monday Morning Quarterback’s Albert Breer said after the game the injury reminded him of the one sustained by Nick Bosa at MetLife Stadium in 2020 when he slipped on the turf.
