Jordan Kyrou extension details: Blues give young forward an eight-year deal after breakout season

The St. Louis Blues and forward Jordan Kyrou have agreed to an eight-year, $65 million contract extension, the team announced on Tuesday. It carries an AAV of $8.125 million.

Kyrou finished up his fourth year with the Blues this past season, recording career-highs in goals (27), assists (48) and points (75). It was his second true season as a regular in the St. Louis lineup, showing his versatility by jumping around lines and producing up and down the lineup.

“I’m so thankful to the Blues organization for putting their trust in me and giving me the opportunity to wear the Blue Note for the foreseeable future,” Kyrou said in the Blues’ press release. “Being able to call St. Louis my home is amazing. I can’t say enough about how much I love the city. And to the best fans in the League, I can’t thank you enough for always showing me love and support.”

The 24-year-old helped the Blues make it to the second round of the playoffs, where they lost to the eventual Cup champion Avalanche. Kyrou’s seven goals in 12 postseason games were the second-most on the team. He made headlines during the 2022 All-Star Weekend, winning the league’s Fastest Skater competition by skating a lap in 13.55 seconds. Kyrou beat out speedster Connor McDavid for the title.

This comes almost exactly two months after the Blues handed out the exact same deal to Robert Thomas. St. Louis gave the 23-year-old an eight-year, $65 million extension after his 77-point season.

With both Kyrou and Thomas getting locked up long-term, the Blues are committing early to their young forwards. Kyrou has shown a keen ability to produce offensively, thanks in large part to his blazing speed and quick hands. The Blues have aspirations of getting back to the Stanley Cup Finals after winning it all in 2019, and Kyrou will be a part of those plans.

Jordan Kyrou contract details

Kyrou’s deal is eight years with a total $65 million. It carries an AAV of $8.125 million.

The extension will not kick in until the 2023-24 season and will run until after the 2030-31 campaign. Kyrou will be playing this upcoming season on the final year of his two-year bridge deal he signed in 2021, carrying a cap hit of $2.8 million.

Jordan Kyrou stats

Kyrou’s emergence really began in the 2020-21 season, when he became a regular in the Blues lineup and recorded 35 points in 55 games during the shortened season.

However, this past season saw him become a point-per-game player in St. Louis, helping the team to the second round of the playoffs. He was fourth on the team in points and third in goals, as he and Thomas form a very strong young duo for the Blues’ future.
