Fear and loathing in Las Vegas?
The Raiders have started the 2022 NFL season 0-3, not exactly the most inviting beginning to the Josh McDaniels era. That has earned McDaniels a call to the principal’s office, apparently.
While it’s seemingly far too early to start sounding the alarms in Vegas, McDaniels and Raiders owner Mark Davis had a “lengthy closed-door meeting” prior to the head coach’s post-game media availability on Sunday afternoon, per reports.

McDaniels didn’t offer much of an explanation for the meeting, but he did seem to intimate that a sense of urgency is forming.

“Losing gets old, fast,” McDaniels said following the game. “These guys, they compete hard, they play hard, coaches coach hard. But you have to earn it.”
The Raiders aren’t exactly rebuilding. With incumbent starter Derek Carr at quarterback, the team trading for Davante Adams and a roster that was on the doorstep of the playoffs in 2021, they should be competing
Las Vegas is the NFL’s lone 0-3 squad after Sunday’s games. Since 1979, just six teams have made the playoffs after starting 0-3. It was last accomplished by the Texans in 2018.

McDaniels was something of a controversial hire, given his ill-fated tenure with the Broncos in the early 2010s and his disastrous entrance-and-exit from Indianapolis in 2018. This start hasn’t answered questions or quelled concerns.
Not to say that the season is already over before the end of September, but it’s not looking overly promising for the Raiders to be playing in mid-January.
