Two perennial college basketball powerhouses clash as Kentucky takes on Michigan State in the opening game of the 2022 Champions Classic.
John Calipari’s squad is ranked No. 4 in the country, and it has started its season with a pair of wins over Howard and Duquesne. The Wildcats have another exciting class of freshmen that could lead them to a deep tournament run in 2023, headlined by combo guard Cason Wallace and small forward Chris Livingston. They also have the returning Oscar Tshiebwe, who won national player of the year in 2021-22.
On the other side, Tom Izzo’s Spartans are 1-1. They beat Northern Arizona in their season-opener before dropping a heartbreaker on Friday, losing 64-63 to No. 2-ranked Gonzaga on the deck of the USS Lincoln. They are led by junior guard A.J. Hoggard along with center Mady Sissoko, who played well despite a touch matchup against Drew Timme last time out.
