Kid Cudi’s Joe Burrow song, explained: How Bengals QB inspired a song in new ‘Entergalactic’ album

Joe Burrow added another feather to his cap on Friday morning. Hours after leading the Bengals to their first win of the season, Burrow was greeted with one the grandest gestures an athlete can receive: having a song named after them.

“Burrow” is the closing track of “Entergalatic”, the latest album release by Cleveland-based rapper Kid Cudi. It features pop music standouts Don Toliver and Steve Aoki and is produced by longtime collaborator Dot da Genius. Filled with the hypnotic hymns and hums that Cudi has come to be known for over the course of his lengthy career, the song is dreary, melodic and compelling.

Burrow seemingly gave Cudi a co-sign on the record, as well, tweeting a teaser of the track, which was featured in a Bose commercial that starred the two Ohio natives.

Here’s what you need to know about the relationship between Burrow and Cudi, two of Ohio’s most famous sons that have found a way to succeed under the brightest of lights.

Why did Kid Cudi name a song after Joe Burrow?

Cudi and Burrow have fostered a real friendship over the past few years. Cudi, one of the most influential artists of his generation, was a regular part of Burrow’s pregame playlists growing up.

The two shared a mutual sense of admiration, one that eventually gave way to friendship. Burrow sent Cudi his game-worn jersey from last year’s AFC Championship. Cudi returned the favor, bringing the former No. 1 overall pick on stage during his Super Bowl 56 after-party performance.

Burrow said that Cudi helped him appreciate just how special last season was for him and the Bengals. Lost in a deluge of emotions following Cincy’s narrow defeat to the Rams in February, Cudi praised Joe Cool for all he accomplished over the course of the year.

“I got into his (Cudi’s) car, and he’s all upbeat and he’s like, ‘Great game,’ and I was like, ‘Nah.’ And he said, ‘No, we’ve got to celebrate this,'” Burrow said in an interview with Bose. “So then, in my head, I’m like, ‘We did something very cool. We got to this point. It didn’t go the way we wanted it to, but I want to celebrate what we did.'”

Cudi went even further, giving a shoutout to the 25-year old hurler during an interview on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” back in March.

Cudi’s latest release, then, simply cemented a relationship that has rapidly developed over the past year or so.

And when asked about how he felt having a song named after him, Burrow was couldn’t keep his joy to himself.

“I have heard the song. It’s exciting, isn’t it?” Burrow said with a smile during a Tuesday presser. “It’s pretty cool. He texted me and told me.”

Feelin’ right, yeah, feelin’ right, yeah
Livin’ out my dreams and I done born
Show you right, dip out through the night
This is what I’ve been waitin’ for in my life
Been in hell so long, said I’m strong
The moonlight falls in my way
Been too low sometimes, watch me while I glow

[Pre-Chorus: Kid Cudi]

This the new-new chapter, what you been searchin’ after
Hmm-hmm-mmm
Gettin’ strong and faster
Make me feel like—

It’s double C on my pants, yeah

And I came up by myself, thought you knew it
This ain’t no love song, baby, I’m in my bag
And I’m thankful for my God
‘Cause that’s all that I havе
Ooh, I wonder what’s hell?
I wonder what’s hеll

[Pre-Chorus: Kid Cudi]
Hmm-hmm-mmm
This the new-new chapter, what you been searchin’ after
