Last Chance: These Streaming Services Are Removing a Ton of Content

Disney is pulling tons of content from its Disney+ and Hulu streaming services on May 26.

As Deadline reports(Opens in a new window), the wide-ranging list of soon-to-be removed content mainly includes short-lived series, specials, and direct-to-streaming movies. Execs first teased the move during a Disney earnings call on May 10. “We are in the process of reviewing the content on our DTC services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation,” Disney CFO Christine McCarthy said at the time

Content to be removed from Disney+ includes Willow, The Princess, Rogue Trip, Stuntman, and The Big Fib. Meanwhile, content that is due to be taken down from Hulu includes Little Demon, Dollface, Everything’s Trash, The Quest, and Love in the Time of Corona. 

According to Deadline, fans of Howard, a Disney+ documentary about Little Mermaid lyricist Howard Ashman, was originally on the streaming chopping block, but that’s no longer the case.

The move comes amid a wider content purge across streaming platforms. In August 2022, Warner Bros Discovery removed a glut of titles from HBO Max, including 20 HBO Originals and 200 episodes of Sesame Street. That came amid the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery, which will result in a combined service known as Max that launches on May 23.

More than 2,000 hours of axed HBO content, including Westworld, The Nevers, and Raised by Wolves, ended up on The Roku Channel last month after Warner Bros. Discovery struck a deal(Opens in a new window) to license select content to free ad-supported streaming services like Tubi and Roku.
