LSU’s Harold Perkins battled flu, vomiting before Michael Jordan-esque game vs. Arkansas

LSU now has a Michael Jordan flu game of its own, thanks to one Harold Perkins.

If only he knew who that was.

The freshman linebacker was unstoppable for the Tigers on Saturday, serving as a one-man wrecking crew in a 13-10 LSU win over the Razorbacks — a victory that kept the team in contention for the SEC West championship.

Perkins finished the game with eight tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles. He also made the game-sealing play, swatting the ball from Arkansas quarterback Cade Fortin’s hands on the Razorbacks’ final drive.

Perkins’ play was all the more impressive considering he was battling a flu bug leading up to the game. First-year LSU coach Brian Kelly told reporters after the game that the former five-star recruit vomited following the team meal.

“I said, ‘Hey, you know MJ threw up when he had his greatest game,'” Kelly said. “He said, ”Who’s MJ?’ I was like, ‘Man, I am getting so old.’ But yeah, it was pretty special.”

Kelly was plenty complimentary of the freshman, tweeting after the game that Perkins “willed this team to victory.” For his performance, he appeared to get LSU’s game ball:

After beating Arkansas, LSU needed only to beat Texas A&M at the end of the season to earn a spot in the SEC championship game in Atlanta, likely against Georgia. But Alabama took care of business for the Tigers, beating No. 11 Ole Miss 30-24 later in the day to clinch the division for LSU.

Now, get Perkins some fluids. And a warm blanket. He earned it.
