Lucid Rounds Out EV Lineup With 2 Cheaper Models, Sets Sights on SUVs

Luxury electric vehicle brand Lucid Motors has unveiled two lower-priced versions of its high-range vehicles: the Air Touring ($107,400) and Air Pure ($87,400).

While still luxury prices, they are substantially lower than the existing Air Grand Touring and upcoming Air Sapphire, which are $154,000 and $249,000, respectively. With Lucid entering the $80,000 to $100,000 range, it will compete with similarly priced vehicles from Audi and BMW rather than the ultra-luxurious EVs from the likes of Maserati.

The “more accessible” price tag opens the door for more people to enjoy some of the highest range vehicles on the market. The Lucid Air Grand Touring, which is now delivering to customers, boasts a 516-mile range compared to 200 to 300 on most other EVs on the road today. The new Air Touring will have a 425-mile range, with a 410-mile range on the cheaper Air Pure.

In August, Lucid announced another sedan under the “Air” lineup: the super-luxe Air Sapphire ($249,000). After the Sapphire and now the Touring and Pure models, Lucid says it will focus on launching the Gravity, the brand’s first SUV that can seat up to seven passengers.

“With the Lucid Air lineup now complete, we’ve set our sights on redefining yet another category of vehicle,” says Lucid. “Lucid Gravity will be a true next-generation luxury SUV, [with] more range than any other EV on the market” – other than its stablemate, Lucid Air.

Lucid is now taking reservations (Opens in a new window)for the Air Touring, Air Grand Touring, and Air Sapphire. Delivery dates and down payment to reserve vary by model. Reservations for the Gravity SUV will begin next year.

Lucid will need to significantly ramp up production to deliver on the reservations in a reasonable amount of time. This year, Lucid only expects to produce up to 7,000 vehicles, according to its third quarter sales results(Opens in a new window). Meanwhile, it already has 34,000 reservations (not including an additional 100,000 ordered by the government of Saudi Arabia). That means it will take about five years to fulfill the orders at the current rate.
