A chainsaw wielding man who police say rushed the Cohasset police station, terrorized a dispatcher then fled and barricaded himself in a home with young children is facing a judge today after police were able to tase and arrest him following a stand-off Sunday night.
Cohasset police report that Cushing Road resident Brien Buckley, 35, burst into the station revving a chainsaw after driving his pick-up onto the lawn and smashing a tree outside around 2:30 p.m..
A police dispatcher reported that Buckley was wielding the chainsaw on the department’s security door, attempting to gain entrance.
According to police, Buckley fled the station and returned to his home at 37 Cushing Road where he holed-up inside, terrorizing at least two children who Buckley “dangled” in front of a second-story window while he was yelling at police outside.
Police called a tactical alert, bringing in assistance from neighboring communities including Hingham, Hull, Scituate, and Norwell, as well as a SWAT team and hostage negotiators from the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council (METRO-LEC).
Hours of negotiations went by before Buckley’s behavior became even more erratic, according to police and the SWAT team breached the house.
Tactical cops took Buckley into custody, tasing him as he resisted arrest, according to police, while other officers rushed in and scooped up and rescued the children.
The children were reunited with their mother and grandfather on the scene. Buckley was transported to the hospital under police guard, according to Cohasset police.
Buckley has been charged with a litany of offenses including assault by means of a dangerous weapon, to wit a chainsaw; child endangerment, damage to property, resisting arrest and driving to endanger.
He’s due to be arraigned today in Quincy District court.
