Man charged following aborted 12th-floor plunge from Boston apartment with corpse, DA says

One man is facing charges after someone attempted to hurl himself out of a 12th story apartment in which one person lay dead, according to authorities.

Michael Perry, 37, will come before a Boston Municipal Court judge Wednesday morning on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon.

Perry was arrested Sunday after Boston Police responded to a wellbeing check at 35 Northampton St., the Suffolk District Attorney’s office said, confirming that this is in reference to the incident that drew news crews Monday morning and adding that “Additional details will be released at arraignment.”

Boston cops on Sunday showed up to the 29-story residential tower at that address on Northampton Street in the South End shortly after 8 p.m. after a call to check on a resident on the 12th floor.

Officers, the department said on Monday, knocked on the door and, after not receiving a response, “gained entry” to the apartment and found who they describe as “a victim” dead inside.

Cops figured out there was someone else holed up in the apartment, and the police called in a “Code 99” — the special-incident designation for a barricaded person, according to the department.

“Boston SWAT officers entered the apartment and were met with a physical threat,” the department wrote about what then unfolded. “Officers used de-escalation tactics and eventually use of less lethal force was deployed by officers.”

Then, police said, the man “dove out a 12th floor window but was caught up,” hanging below it.

The SWAT team headed down to the 11th floor underneath and pulled the suspect in through that unit’s window.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
