A woman on her first day of a new job apparently wasn’t happy at all when her husband arranged to have an enormous six-foot dolphin teddy delivered to her office

A man claims to have berated his friend after he sent a huge six-foot dolphin toy to his wife’s new office on her very first day at her new job, embarrassing her in front of her colleagues. He says she was left “furious” by the gift, and that “her senior managers found zero humor in it”.
Before she’s even had a chance to get to know everyone, the woman’s equals, and even those she will be managing, have given her “stupid nicknames” and spent the rest of the day having a good laugh “at her expense.” This was far from the professional first impression she’d hoped to make.

According to this man, the dolphin was so large, that the fuming financial management professional had struggled to fit it in the elevator, and was forced to lug it through the lobby and up to the car park. She wasn’t happy at all and ended up going to spend the night at her parents’ house.
The conflicted friend, who goes by the username u/Reddit807, took to Reddit to figure out whether he’d responded incorrectly to the situation, having sided with the enraged wife.
He wrote: “So he’s telling me all this and being honest I’m laughing because I can picture her dragging this thing like a dead body and how filthy it probably is. Then he says he spent a few hundred on this!?
“So he’s clearly venting to me about how this idea went south, fishing for friendly support here, and asks if I agree how it was a thoughtful and sweet idea and she’s being unreasonable, but I don’t agree at all. I called him a f****** idiot for thinking this was smart.
“I said, ‘I literally just read something on Reddit about a guy who got drunk and told his wife’s boss all about her juvey history costing her advancement’. And that this was right up there with that. I kind of laid into him about how disrespectful this was and on her first day of all days. And about as a spouse, only a fool would do anything to put their significant other in a poor light.”
The husband remained quiet throughout this telling-off, and, after clarifying his friend had finished, promptly hung up. Now he won’t pick up his phone, and the friend wonders whether he should have just listened to him vent without giving his personal opinion.
One fellow Reddit user advised: “He needs to marinate in his juvenile prank. Flowers would have been appropriate. Sending lunch over would have been appropriate. Even a small stuffy would have been appropriate. A six-foot porpoise without a purpose is so unprofessional and juvenile. Now the first impression of her from her new coworkers and boss isn’t a good one.”
Another said: “This kinda smells of deliberately undermining his wife. Does her new job in a new city make him insecure? It’s incredibly important that men call out other men’s undermining or disrespectful behaviour. Well done.”
