If you don’t have your own driveway, it can be a real challenge to park outside your own home. Some residents may find themselves unable to even leave their car on the road they live on and having to park elsewhere entirely. This can prove annoying for some drivers and they might try and take matters into their own hands to ensure their car can be placed as close to their front door as possible.

One man has gone viral on Reddit, after sharing a look at what they claim is a neighbour’s attempt at “reserving” an on-street parking space near where they live. The unnamed user shared a snap of the sneaky trick.

Posting on the Casual UK forum, they said: “My neighbour bought a broken moped to hold his parking spot when he’s not home.”

Alongside this, they shared a snap of the moped at night time, parked between two other cars – but with a big gap in between.

The post has garnered over 3,900 upvotes and hundreds of comments from fellow users.

Many people thought it was an odd thing to do as the moped owner would have to be taxing the vehicle to keep it on the road. Others joked the moped wouldn’t last there very long.

“If where you live is anything like mine, that’ll be in the back of a van in very short order,” proclaimed one person.

Another said: “You have to go out there and face it in the opposite direction just to mess with his mind.”

Someone else posted: “In the beforetimes, when a Mini was smaller than a Land Rover, there was a lass who parked hers blocking the drive round the back of the shop each morning. It became routine for four of us to pick it up and carry it out onto the street so she could get her ticket for abandoning the bloody thing.”

A different user wrote: “I’d find something to put next to it, so when he moves his bike, there isn’t room for their car. Yes, I am that petty.”

“Needs tax, mot AND insurance to be on a public highway I think, if it’s declared SORN it shouldn’t be on the road at all,” added a fifth.
