- Yes, this really happened.
There are a lot of people that are serious about their movie theater movies but this goes way beyond that.
The man accused of shooting and killing another man inside a movie theater has been arrested. The incident took place Sunday night.
There was a simple dispute over seats and it escalated into a shooting.
It was just after 9 p.m. at the Century Rio near I-25 and Jefferson where the shooting took place. “No Hard Feelings” was playing when officers responded to the threat, according to the arrest warrant.
According to the police, Enrique Padilla, 19, shot and killed Michael Tenorio, 52, after an argument over reserved seats. Padilla and his girlfriend confronted the couple, who were sitting in the reserved seats paid for by Padilla.
Movie theater staff tried to resolve the confrontation but the couples continued to argue. Padilla was then accused of throwing a bucket of popcorn at the older couple.
The two men stood up and Tenorio pushed Padilla back and towards a wall. This is when several shots were fired, hitting Tenorio.
Tenorio’s wife said she saw a green laser coming from Padilla prior to the shots being fired. She stated she thought the laser came from a handgun.
Witnesses told police that Padilla fled the area on foot immediately following the shooting. They also said that Tenorio’s girlfriend got in a physical fight with Tenorio’s wife before also fleeing the scene.
A police officer who was off-duty at the time and at the movie theater during the shooting attempted CPR on Tenorio, though he died at the scene.
Padilla was discovered hiding behind a bush just outside the emergency exit at the theater. He asked a bystander to call 911 because he had been shot and was wounded. Padilla was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital to be treated for his gunshot wound.
Padilla is facing an open count for the murder. And all over a seat confusion at the movie theater.
