In a bid to break the ice, the man acted foolishly in front of his neighbours’ smart doorbell – the prank went terribly wrong and they threatened to call the police, but some people think they are overreacting

It can often be quite difficult to break the ice with new neighbours, no matter how sociable you are. While some people choose heartfelt gestures like bringing a cake or flowers, one man has chosen a more unusual approach to introducing himself. In a bid to lighten the mood with the new residents next door, the man chose to play a prank on his new neighbours that took a turn for the worst after they threatened to call the police.
The man’s wife has been left seething over her husband’s antics, and took to social media to share the ordeal. Posting on Mumsnet, the woman reveals that her partner gave their neighbours a terrible fright that left them “fearing for their lives”. The ordeal started when the man behaved foolishly in front of his neighbours’ video doorbell – and everything has been caught on camera.

In the post online, the woman expressed her anger at her husband who “doesn’t know when to stop”.
She explained: “My husband is a t*** who thinks he is hilarious. He’s a kind, sweet person, but he doesn’t know when to stop.
“He has on a couple of occasions been a t*** in front of this ring doorbell thinking he is funny as f***. Each time for around two to five seconds.
“I don’t mean nudity or swearing or anything just fooling around,” the woman clarified.
“The neighbours want to go to the police and fear for their lives,” she said.

Sharing the post in the ‘am I being unreasonable’ forum on Mumsnet, the woman said that things have gone “too far” between their neighbours.
She explained: “I think this has all gone a bit too far. I’m going round tonight to talk to them.
“They don’t know if they want to talk to him, which is of course their choice.”
In a desperate plea for advice, the woman questioned whether to “grovel” and “take flowers” or to simply “assure them it will never happen again”
She added: “If it goes the other way say involving the police might be a sign you need to chill out.”
“It has obviously happened now, so what’s the best thing to do?” She asked.
After fellow Mumsnet users sought clarification on what the husband’s exact actions were, the woman claimed that his prank was completely harmless and “nothing bad”.
Expanding on the saga, she wrote: “Honestly, nothing bad (other than doing it). Thumbs up, giggling, insane, stupid and silly.
“No pretending to be an intruder. But he was in front of this bell behaving like a prat.
One user wrote: “Oh dear. I’m sure I have loads of friends who would find it funny to do t***** stuff on someone else’s ring doorbell.
“As long as it’s not nudity / threatening etc I think your neighbours are overreacting, even if it’s not funny,” they added.
“Call the police for what?” A second asked. “Pratting about or dramatic threatening chades [sic] in manner to intimidate?
“If it was for the former, your next door neighbours are being ridiculous and I would love to be a fly on the wall, whilst they make the call,” they said.
