Is that Michael Irvin or the preacher from “Coming to America”?
The Hall of Fame Cowboys wide receiver is famed for his propensity to get on a roll, not only on the football field, but behind the microphone, too. Tuesday’s episode of “First Take” was a not-so-subtle reminder of that.
On the morning after the Cowboys’ 23-16 win over division-rival Giants, Irvin wasn’t only drinking the Cowboys’ Kool Aid, he plunged head-first into the jug. Irvin delivered an epic hype speech on ESPN’s “First Take,” praising the Cowboys’ pass rush and likening CeeDee Lamb’s effort to Bible passages.

The full transcription, for your copypasta needs:
What you’re lookin’ at on that defensive line is something finger-lickin’-good special. That’s what I’m talkin’ about. All five of them, coming rushing, and just getting to the quarterback. It’s-finger-lickin’-good special. And we can get somewhere with that. I’m gonna tell you this, too. I have been hurting, because I have been having to tell the truth about how great Philadelphia looks. And they do look great. And I said there is no chance. But with that finger-lickin’ pass rush, we do got a chance, well get a chance to get to Philly, ’cause we got that finger-lickin’ pass rush, that is so good, and a pass rush can stop everything.
Now, we should talk about CeeDee Lamb. Did you know the No. 8 stands for new beginning? That’s why the No. 88 is so special, because God knows, I’ve needed so many new beginnings. And 88’s can take a new beginning. The Bible talks about men like this. They call them ‘Mighty Men of Valor.’ You might mess up, but you will do everything you have to do, to make your mess up right. And that’s what CeeDee Lamb did last night. He did everything he needed to do to make his mess up right. ‘Yes, I dropped a big pass. But I came back and I had a CeeDee Lamb drive.’ You wanna talk about a playmaker? That’s a playmaker. He made the plays.
And then the one-handed stab for the grab of the touchdown on the go-ahead. It’s what playmakers do. It’s what 88 do.
Irvin going full-on Cowboy homer is a sight to behold, but what makes it sweeter is that he’s going full-on Cowboy homer in front of full-on Cowboy hater Stephen A. Smith. Smith’s expressions tell the whole story. As for the story of the Cowboys’ 2022 season, well, that’s still being written.

To Irvin’s point, what should be encouraging is the way that the Dallas defense got after Daniel Jones all night, sacking the passer six times in the win, and also Lamb, who had a gimme drop early in the game but put the Cowboys ahead with an epic grab in the end zone.
Dallas’ two recent wins have also come without quarterback Dak Prescott, who could return sooner than expected.
It remains to be seen if Irvin’s rant will finally unseat “and there’s a drive…” memes, but Irv’s got as good a case of any to become meme-worthy.
