Morgan Wade Shares Recovery Update 5 Months After Her Double Mastectomy to Prevent Breast Cancer

Country singer Morgan Wade has been taking over the music space since her debut album, Puppets with My Heart, was released in 2018. However, the Academy of Country Music Awards nominee is now opening up about her personal life. The “Wilder Days” singer revealed in May 2023 that she tested positive for the BRCA — an abbreviation for Breast Cancer — gene, which has “been found to impact a person’s chances of developing breast cancer,” according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.

“I had the BRCA gene, it’s a breast cancer gene so I’m having a double mastectomy in November,” Morgan revealed to Page Six at the time. “I’m going really hard up until November, so then, November and December I have off to rest.”

Though Morgan didn’t share much about her procedure itself, she did open up about what led her to have it done. She later broke her silence about her recovery a few months after the surgery.

Who Is Morgan Wade?

The country music songstress released her debut album in 2018, and has had a major rise to fame since then. In March 2021, she dropped the Reckless record under her Thirty Tigers, Arista Nashville label before transitioning to Sony Music Nashville. The Virginia native released her third record, Psychopath, in August 2023.

“It’s definitely different,” she told U.K.’s Express in May 2023 of the forthcoming album. “But not crazy-different from Reckless. I think it’s a good progression. It’s not the same — you don’t wanna keep putting out the same product — but it’s not so far in the left field. It’s a continuation in a good way.”

Since dropping multiple albums, Morgan has been nominated for both an Americana Music Honors & Award and Academy of Country Music Award.

Does Morgan Wade Have Breast Cancer?

While speaking with Page Six, Morgan revealed that her mom and “little cousin” both had breast cancer, noting that she received the news of her BRCA gene in 2022. This did not mean that she had breast cancer, but she was at a higher risk of getting it.

“I’ll be fine,” she told the publication, noting that she’s also “feeling fine” about the entire situation.

“I’m just pissed I won’t be able to work out because I really like working out,” she added. “That’s my only qualm about it.”

A few months later, in August 2023, Morgan told People she decided to have the double mastectomy for “peace of mind.”

“People are like, ‘Well, what if you never got cancer?’” she said. “I was like, ‘Well, I won’t know because I’m going to do the procedure and then not worry about it.’ If you have the opportunity to prevent something, prevent it. That’s the choice that I want to make.”

Did Morgan Wade Have a Double Mastectomy?

Morgan had her double mastectomy in November 2023 as planned, although she didn’t share much about her recovery process until March 2024.

“I haven’t talked much about my post-surgery recovery from my double mastectomy and reconstruction I had back in November,” she wrote in an Instagram post that included photos and videos from her recovery.

“It’s been 4 months and I’ve been back to powerlifting and running,” Morgan continued. “Started back to that around January. There have been a few things I haven’t been able to do until now – the last month I’ve finally been back to doing what I want.”

Morgan then went on to answer some common questions from fans, revealing that she “did get implants” and is “happy with them.” She also shared that she doesn’t have nipples, explaining that she wanted them to be removed because her aunt’s cancer started in her milk ducts and “we wanted no chance of that with me.”

“It was an adjustment to look at myself for a minute. I’m still adjusting to how different my body looks – change is never easy – but this was worth it,” Morgan continued. “I have 0 regrets and I am extremely happy with the choice I made. I am blessed God got me through this and has allowed me to heal fast and I look forward to a healthy long life Lord willing.”

Morgan’s journey isn’t over. The singer revealed that she plans to have an “egg retrieval” next and “eventually a hysterectomy and oophorectomy,” although she’s waiting on those procedures because of her age.
