A cleaning guru who had tried several different methods to clean mould that had built up inside her washing machine said she was ‘shocked’ to discover a bargain product left her appliance sparkling

If you have ever had the misfortune of finding black mould inside your washing machine, you’ll know what a pain it can be to clean out. But removing the harmful substance is often easier said than done, if it lurking inside the rubber in your appliance. One woman who knows this only too well was left exasperated after struggling to find a fix when she faced this common problem.
From mould remover to bleach, she tried a number of conventional cleaning methods. But no matter what she used, “nothing worked” at first, and she was left stuck with the stubborn mould inside her machine. So you can imagine her joy when she finally discovered a product that she claims has solved her issue – and it was a bargain, costing her a “couple of pounds”.

Eager to pass on the handy tip, Christine Hughes, the cleaning guru in question, took to Facebook. Writing on Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips, she revealed she rid her washing machine of black mould using Vamoosh, 6-in-1 Washing Machine Cleaner.
Captioning a photo of the item in question, she wrote: “Seen lots of posts about mould in a washing machine. All the inside of the rubber in mine had black mould. I tried mould remover on cotton pads.
“I tried scrubbing it with mould remover even tried bleach. Nothing worked. Went in home bargain and got this for a couple of pounds. Omg it has got rid of all the mould, I will definitely be getting some more.”
Explaining how to use the washing machine cleaner in a comment, she said: “You just put it in your powder compartment and put it on a 90 degree wash.”
“It really works was so shocked,” she added. And she is not the only one who swears by the cleaning product, which is available for £2.99 in B&M, as one helpful commenter pointed out.
One reply read: “I also love Vamoosh. It is brilliant stuff.”
Someone else said: “Snap! Same problem mould and soap residue around door seal found some washing machine cleaner in my cupboard I’d forgotten about and after a couple of cycles it’s gone.”
And a third wrote: “I use the version of this for pet hair, it dissolves the pet hair that gets in the pipes etc. It’s really good, I have it on repeat order from Amazon.” Several people also thanked Christine for revealing the tip.
Meanwhile, a different commenter shared another suggestion, writing: “I always wipe out the rubber seal after every wash and never (sic) have mould and then leave door open to air off.”
