Christmas is dubbed the ‘most wonderful time of year’, but the joyous festivities also bring a lot of pressure to prepare your household for guests – particularly if you’re hosting friends and family.
One of the most dreaded cleaning tasks all-year round is tackling the oven, as dirt, grease and grime builds up over time and becomes near-impossible to scrub off. To add insult to injury, most oven-specific cleaning treatments are full of chemicals, pricey and take a long time to use.
If you’ve been putting off the task, now is the time to confront it, as you’ll be sticking the turkey in there before you know it – and the last thing anyone needs is judgmental guests making sly digs about the state of your oven.

Luckily, fans of cleaning guru Mrs Hinch – real name Sophie Hinchliffe – have come to the rescue yet again, as they’ve shared a oven cleaning hack that even the laziest of cleaners can get behind – and it costs just 11p.
The cleaning expert has garnered a loyal fanbase thanks to her incredible tips, and now they’ve created an online community to share their own hacks and advice for when others are stuck with household dilemmas.
One woman named Abigail Azoulay recently took to social media to ask Mrs Hinch fans for advice on banishing grease from her oven, the Express reports
She asked the community: “Can anyone give me some tips on how to clean the glass on a vertical oven door?”
Her prayers were answered, as many flocked to recommend an unusual solution – the humble dishwasher tablet.
Jessica Hutchinson wrote: “Damp a dishwasher tablet and rub! Works amazing! Or Astonish, that’s absolutely brilliant too!”
Others chimed in praising the hack, with Kerry Hay explaining: “Take a dishwasher tablet, soak it in water and rub it all over the glass then wipe it over with a cloth or sponge. I was surprised how easily it removed all the grime.”
Mel Hollis also recommended a dishwasher tablet with bicarbonate of soda to banish oven door grease.
Mrs Hinch fans urged Abigail to opt for traditional dishwasher tablets rather than pods, as those would likely burst or dissolve.
If you own a dishwasher, chances are you’ll already have these tablets lying around the kitchen, but if not, shoppers can pick up a 12 pack from the likes of B&M and The Range for as little as £1.29 – which works out at around 11p per tablet.
Wilko All-in-One Dishwasher Tablets Lemon 40 pack costs £3, making this trick a real bargain.
