Amazing 45p hack to keep condensation at bay this winter

Temperatures have plummeted in recent days, with some of us even seeing a blanket of snow where we live. This freezing cold weather can cause condensation to collect on our windows – which isn’t ideal.

Condensation occurs when water in the warm air hits a cold pane of glass and turns to liquid, which can collect on window ledges. It can subsequently cause mould if left untreated, which is dangerous to your health.

One woman who had this very problem took to Facebook to ask for advice to clear her windows of condensation. In the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group she begged for ways to clear the dampness after she’d recently moved into a rented property.

She said: “Just moved into a rented property and without a fail every day the windows have condensation like this, I’ve tried the little (humidifier) pots shown in the picture to help but it’s made zero difference.

“Any advice on how to stop this would be brill! It even leaks water onto the window seal some days from how much condensation there is.”

The most popular solution was a 50p kitchen product – salt.

One person said: “Put salt in a bowl on the window sill. It will draw the damp to it.”

“I’d recommend that too”, wrote another.

You can pick up a 750g tub of table salt from Asda for just 50p, making this an affordable tip to try.

Others suggested a humidifier, but instead of splashing out on one right before Christmas, a third commented: “Grab a big plastic tub and make your own dehumidifier by putting cat litter or salt or even sugar in it – anything that will absorb moisture.”

A few people suggested opening windows when it’s bearable for an hour or so, and putting the heating on, which should sort the problem – but with the rising cost of living, many will be keen to try the salt method.
