A mum is fuming with her daughter’s secondary school as she claims they are not allowing the pupils to eat lunch inside, despite the freezing weather across the country.

The mum explained that plenty of her daughter’s classmates have been at home ill but the school are sticking with the rule as they say they need the hall for flu vaccinations and cannot have kids eating lunch in the room as well.

Taking to the ‘Am I Being Unreasonable?’ forum on Mumsnet, the mum, who remained anonymous, aired her concern about her child’s wellbeing and wants the school to open up a hall.

In the post, the woman said: “Secondary school not allowing kids to eat their lunch indoors in this cold weather am I being unreasonable to feel cross with this as it is detrimental to pupils’ health and wellbeing?

“My child was upset going to school today due to this and less than half the kids are in her class at the moment due to illness.

“Reasons cited by the school not to open up the hall is building works and needing the hall for flu vaccinations.”

The mum went on to say that she wants her daughter to enjoy some fresh air at break times but does not think a freezing cold picnic is the best way to make them enjoy their lunches.

She continued: “I don’t think many adults would like a freezing cold picnic. Don’t think there is anything I can do now (and school say will open hall in January) but just feel upset about it

“I had presumed my child had somewhere warm to eat at least.”

In response, many have shared the mum’s shock and said this is totally unreasonable from the school.

One person wrote: “I wouldn’t be too happy about this, especially where we are at the moment it’s snowed and very cold.”

While another said: “I actually think it’s madness the things schools expect children to do that would never be acceptable in the real world. Eat outside in minus-degree weather for example!”

A third penned: “They should be able to choose to eat at tables with chairs. Y’know, like actual human beings do!”
