Whether we like to admit it or not, we all are victims to having weird and strange habits that we keep quiet due to the underlying fear that we may be judged. Understandably causing a stir online, a woman has sparked a debate as she discusses the controversial habit of urinating in the shower.
Since posting on Mumsnet, the online discussion has raked in over 220 comments to date – where fellow users have labelled the habit as “lazy” and “gross” – whilst others don’t see a problem with it whatsoever. In her post, the mum asked: “So the question is, is it OK to pee whilst in the shower?”

“Proviso being you ensure you have washed everything away properly,” she added.
“The topic of conversation came up relating way back to one of the Big Brother series where someone admitted to regularly peeing in the shower.
“One logic was ‘well most families share one sponge/flannel/fluffy to wash their faces as well as all their bottoms and winky bits’.”
Viewers rushed to the comment section of the Mumsnet post to discuss the matter, which caused a frenzy amongst users online as no one could agree.

One person fumed: “Unreasonable. Just don’t. You haven’t got two seconds to spare to get to the actual toilet? Lazy and gross.”
“I found out a few years ago that people do this. I don’t pull out hair from the plug hole anymore,” a second added.
“I have very low standards but peeing in the shower is gross and so is sharing a sponge,” a third agreed.
On the other hand, comments from fellow Mumsnet users suggest that the habit is surprisingly common despite people’s opinions.
“It’s fine,” one said.
A second wrote: “Yes it’s ok. We don’t share flannels etc though, although we do share towels.”
A different user explained: “Of course it’s ok to pee in the shower. You’re washing dirt, dead skin cells etc down the plug hole, so what’s the difference?!”
Whilst the habit appears to be pretty common, a doctor previously took to TikTok to share an important warning to those that urinated in the shower.
Dr Alicia Jeffrey-Thomas – a pelvic floor expert – explained: “We want to avoid training our bladder to associate certain signals with the urge to pee. In this case, peeing in the shower associates the sound of running water with urination or with submersion in water.
“This can often transition into being triggered by other sounds of running water (like when you’re running the faucet to wash your hands or the dishes) or when you’re in bodies of water.”
