Mum ‘traumatised’ after toddler charges at huge spider

A mum has been left “traumatised” after her fearless toddler charged at a giant spider, while she looked on in terror. Freya Lily Swailes, 25, from Carlisle, was horrified when she spotted the unwelcome visitor crawling around her home. But her daughter, 1 7-month-old Zylah, had quite the opposite reaction – as the brave youngster ran toward the spider.

Ignoring her mum’s warning to stay away, the tot got so close she even stepped on the arachnid, prompting her mum to scream. The frightening encounter was captured on camera and shared to TikTok by Freya, who could not believe what she had seen.

Posting as @freyalily__x, she captioned the video: “I cant believe she stood on it. I am definitely more traumatised than my child.”

In the clip, the mum zooms in on the creepy crawly, positioned on the floor between her and her child.

“Oh my God, look at the size of it,” she can be heard saying.

Intrigued, her daughter starts to walk forward, but her mum quickly tells her: “Stay away from it, stay away from it, stay away from it.”

Not daunted, however, she continues. The child then makes her toward her mother, standing on the spider “with her bare feet”, as an onscreen caption points out.

Her mum can be heard screaming, before the camera shakes and the video comes to an abrupt end.

The video has since racked up over six million views in a matter of days, amusing people but also terrifying those who share the mum’s fear of spiders.

Luckily, it looks like she can now see the funny side of things.

One commenter said: “I think if you’d have asked her she would have picked it up and got rid of it for you #nofear,” to which the mum replied: “She honestly would have,” before adding a laughing emoji.

And answering a different person who wrote: “Crying at your scream,” she joked: “She just looked at me like ‘Mam what the f you screaming at'”.

Keen to join in with the fun, another response teased: “Welp… time to get a new child.”

But several people understood the mum’s response, with one writing: “I WOULD SCREAM JUST LIKE THAT.”
