A woman claims her mum has an unfortunate habit of pinching everyone’s baby names and using them for her pets, playing innocent whenever someone calls her out on it

No matter how carefully a new parent may pick their baby name, there’s still always a chance a friend or relative will plump for the exact same one, causing a fair bit of confusion at parties. One mum apparently has form in this particular area and won’t stop stealing everybody else’s baby names to use for her own pets.
According to her exasperated but amused daughter, her name-pinching mum “refuses to acknowledge” her frustrating habit and is said to be “in total denial.” about it. In one particularly brazen example, after her sister-in-law gave her child “a fairly uncommon short name”, the cheeky mum used the exact same name for her adopted dog just one year later.

Taking to Reddit, where she goes by the username @antfarm2020, the daughter wrote: “Now it’s not a big deal or anything but when I mentioned it to her she played innocent like she had no idea. My mum is a name nerd. She knew.
“So years later my mum adopts a cat. And what name does she use? The one I’ve been telling her since childhood I would use if I ever had a son. I mention this to her and she plays innocent. So I kind of b**** out on her and tell her it’s totally weird and a pattern of here. She denies it but a few days later changes the cat’s name- to my nephew’s name.”
Clarifying that the situation is “mostly hilarious”, she continued: “I would still use whatever name I want for a kid regardless of what she does.
“It’s also a huge pet peeve of mine when people use people names for pets. I have five pets and they all have cutesy names you would never use on a human. My name has somehow become a popular pet name in recent years. It’s annoying. Name your d*** dog Sprinkles or Nugget.”
Fellow Reddit users have been left cracking up at the mum’s outrageous antics, and can’t believe how she’s gotten away with it for so long.
One person laughed: “My sister stole my mum’s dog’s name for her own child. Dog died by the time she was four, but it was confusing sometimes to have a dog and grandchildren with the same name.”
Another jokingly suggested: “Oh my god! That’s frustrating but hilarious. Like it’s the family joke at this point. Get a fish and name it her name.”
