A bride-to-be has been left frustrated as her bridesmaid is refusing to have her hair cut ahead of her wedding – but it’s so long it’ll cost a fortune to have it styled

Planning a wedding can get expensive pretty quickly, and it’s important to know what your budget limitations are before you end up with a lavish ceremony that you can’t afford. But one woman has been left unsure of what to do after she discovered she won’t be able to pay for one of her bridesmaids to have her hair styled for the big day – because it’s too long.
The bride-to-be said her best friend has long hair that finishes past her knees, and the hair stylist she is booking for her wedding has said styling her hair will cost double the price of everyone else because of how long it will take to do.
As the woman is struggling to see the benefit in paying more for her to have her hair styled, she has asked her friend if she’d be willing to cut her locks before the wedding – but she has refused, and has branded the woman a “bridezilla”.

In a post on Reddit, the woman said: “I am getting married. My fiancé and I are paying for everything for our bridal party as we want their support without anyone getting in debt for us, as we know not all our friends are in as good a financial position as we are. However, I’m having a problem with how much it’s going to cost to do the hair of one of my bridesmaids.
“The bridesmaid (Adie) has extremely long, thick hair, past her knees. I don’t think she has ever cut her hair. Due to the length of her hair, the hairdresser that I am using has advised that doing Adie’s hair is going to cost double, as they will need to dedicate just one person to do Adie’s hair as it will take much longer. Another stylist will be able to do the hair of the other 3 bridesmaids in the same amount of time.
“We had a trial and it took 50 minutes to do Adie’s hair compared to the 20 minutes each for the others. It didn’t look as nice as the others due to how much hair was braided up. I don’t want to have to pay for an additional person because Adie’s hair is ridiculously long.
“I asked Adie to cut her hair to at least her waist so that it’s of a similar length to my other bridesmaids.
“Adie was upset and told me that I was being insensitive. I honestly thought this was a reasonable request. It’s my wedding, surely, she wants to make me happy. She suggested that she did her own hair, but I said no as I want my bridesmaids to all look the same and she’d look different if she did her own hair.”
The bride then asked her bridesmaid if she would be willing to pay the extra £200 that she’ll be charged for accommodating Adie’s long hair, but she said she wouldn’t be able to afford the payment.
She added: “Adie has said that I’m being a bridezilla, but I disagree. I don’t think I’m being unreasonable.”
Commenters on the Reddit post were largely on the side of the bridesmaid, with many of them saying she shouldn’t have to change her body in a way she isn’t comfortable with just to fit in with the other bridesmaids at the wedding.
One person said: “You don’t ask people to cut their hair, dye their hair, or otherwise modify themselves for you.”
While another added: “You want her to get rid of a significant amount of hair that it’s taken her a lifetime to grow for your one-day event. If you don’t want to pay that amount, ask her to do it. But don’t expect her to make such a drastic change that could take her decades to correct, if her hair recovers, for such a short event.”
And a third wrote: “Asking a friend to change her appearance for the esthetic of your wedding is awful. She sounds like she has been very accommodating and tried to compromise with you by offering to do her own hair. If it is that important to you, pay the £200 and be done with it.”
In an edit to the original post, the bride admitted she was wrong to ask Adie to cut her hair, and said she has since spoken to her bridesmaid to apologise. The pair are now planning on going through alternative hairstyles that Adie can wear to the wedding, and she will be doing her own hair to save money on a stylist.
