‘My house buyers invited their family to visit when I still live here – I’m furious’

A concerned woman has shared her fears after a friend – who has recently put their house on the market – had a large family come to view her property, which has left her uneasy over the idea of “randomers tramping around her bedroom”. Recently putting her own house on the market, the seller has questioned whether she should now put additional measures in place at viewings.

Taking to popular forum Mumsnet, the woman explained: “[A friend] told me the buyers asked if they could have access to measure up on Friday afternoon. She agreed, then got another text from the estate agent asking if their parents could pop in at the same time.”

The anonymous user continued: “She agreed and made herself scarce for a couple of hours.

“She’s now heard from a neighbour that quite a gang were in the house.

“She’s annoyed as it’s still her home and she didn’t want a bunch of randomers tramping around her bedroom etc without her knowledge.

“I wouldn’t be happy with that either,” she added.

She sought advice from users, questioning: “Would I be unreasonable to insist on knowing exactly who the buyers of my house are bringing with them during measuring up visits, etc, or is that just being awkward?”

Taking to the comments, several budding users shared their thoughts about the ordeal and whether the woman was being unreasonable.

One person admitted: “I wouldn’t be thrilled with this and would probably tell the estate agents that it’s buyers only, or arrange to be home when they come and tell them myself!”

“I would not be going anywhere while people I didn’t know measured up in my house,” a second agreed. “Who gives random strangers free reign in their house while they are out?”

On the other hand, a third person penned: “I wouldn’t care. It’s only one visit, and to me, bringing parents shows they’re serious!”

“I brought my parents along to one viewing – I didn’t realise it might be frowned upon!” Another wrote.
