‘My neighbour threatened to sue us because the leaves from our tree dropped in her pool’

The girl and her family had a feud with the neighbours, and it had been simmering away for almost 10 years – but it was taken to boiling point after the neighbour took it too far

Having a neighbour that seems to go out of their way to make your life difficult is really unnerving. It can make living in your own home incredibly stressful, and makes things tough not just for you, but for the rest of your family.

A 15-year-old girl was pushed to her limit as she was forced to take to Reddit’s ‘Nightmare Neighbour’ forum to share her family frustrations anonymously. They’d been struggling to get along with their neighbour for ‘almost a decade’, but things had gone too far.

She told Redditors about how her 46-year-old neighbour seems to purposefully behave obnoxiously – even going as far as to threaten to sue the family for the most ridiculous reason.

The teen wrote: “I (15F), my parents, and my brother (12M) have had problems with my neighbor [sic] (46F) for almost a decade. She is a single woman with no children, and a dog buying a 3-story house.

“She threatened to sue my family because there was a tree on OUR property, and it wasn’t good for her pool because leaves would fall into it.

“Then, she called the cops because our cat escaped from the house, and her dog is ‘terrified of cats’. This cat was in our bushes, nowhere near her.

“Today was my breaking point, as my brother and his friends were biking on the street. One of the friends fell onto her lawn as he sprained his ankle when he fell off the bike.

“Five seconds later, ‘Karen’ over here screams ‘WHAT ARE YOU DOING? GET OFF MY PROPERTY!!’ Keep in mind this is a ten-year-old who just sprained his ankle.

“[She] gets even angrier. ‘I’M GOING TO GIVE YOU FIVE SECONDS, IF YOU DON’T GET OFF YOULL BE SORRY.’

“All of the boys stared at her. She went over and shoved the boy off the lawn. ‘I can’t stand you people’, she said as she went inside. I hate her so much. What’s her problem?”

People were quick to point out that the family needed to get some evidence on video, because it was clear that the family were being harassed.

One wrote: “Why haven’t you called the police yet? This is harassment. Get everything on video.”

Another said: “Hands on a minor child? If you don’t use that to cool her jets she will continue to walk all over you with it escalating quickly if she’s already that bold.

“Honestly, that’s your trump card even though it sucks it happened it’s serious, and it’s time to draw your line in the sand. Pretty sure the police won’t look too kindly on her actions. Sorry it happened to him and hope he’s ok.”

Someone else wrote: “I would absolutely tell your parents what happened because she cannot be allowed to get away with physically shoving a child. That’s completely unacceptable and legally can be followed up on.”

A fourth user added: “While the police may likely do nothing because it wasn’t on video, and kids can’t be witnesses, you can still make your parents use it verbally to scare her into minding her own damn business.”
