Enocha Edenfield, 42, embraces all things eerie, steering ghost tours in the historically enigmatic city of Savannah, Georgia.
The enthusiast, who has an affinity for history, has encountered ethereal occurrences such as the sensation of an unseen hand on her shoulder and even residing in an apartment with a spectral tenant.
Savannah boasts an extensive history of spectral activity, with numerous allegedly haunted hotels, B&Bs, and cemeteries, and an abundance of reports recounting ghostly encounters.
According to Enocha, the 19th-century structures known as Factor’s Row rank among the city’s most ghost-laden areas.
Enocha shared with The Sun, “When you walk around, you feel like you’re shoulder to shoulder with people you can’t see.
“On one occasion, my dog Vash halted to engage in his playful antics, as if he were about to frolic with another dog.
“But there was no tangible presence. He was frolicking with a phantom canine.”
Another renowned haunt for those seeking spectral thrills is the Moon River Brewing Company.
Established in 1821 as the City Hotel, the eatery capitalizes on its eerie repute – it even made an appearance on a 2009 episode of Ghost Adventures.
The building proprietors have preserved the original stone-walled basement, and the unaltered interior contributes to the location’s haunting ambiance.
Visitors have shared their experiences via TikTok, sharing encounters with the establishment’s numerous spirits, including gambler James Stark, who met his fate there in 1832, and the spectral presence of a young boy named Tobey, rumored to traverse its corridors.
Enocha explained, “Moon River is a renowned hub for paranormal investigators – and for valid reasons.
“It resonates with ghostly activity, and upon entering, one is transported back in time.”
During one visit, while accompanied by a food blogger friend, Enocha encountered a manager who regaled them with tales of the “Woman in White.”
“One night, while the manager was upstairs retrieving something from storage, he heard the sounds of a woman in distress.
“He assumed it was his co-worker, who was undergoing a breakup – so he offered solace, offering comforting words like ‘you’ll pull through, you’re better off without him,’ and so on.
“As he turned to where he presumed she’d be, he discovered no one there. The source was the Woman in White, her weeping echoing again.”
During another instance, while intending to take a selfie in front of a mirror at Moon River, Enocha sensed a restraining touch on her chest.
She recounted, “Moon River boasts a sizable mirror above a fireplace, and I was inclined to take a haunted selfie – a jest I share with my friends.
“As I moved toward the fireplace, I suddenly felt a hand on my chest.
“The pressure was discernible – a specter was discouraging my approach. So I stepped back, respecting that part of the room.”
Enocha’s favorite tour destination is Colonial Park Cemetery, which houses 9,000 graves, including 700 victims of a harrowing yellow fever epidemic.
However, an experience there sent shivers down even Enocha’s spine, despite her affinity for the paranormal.
She recalled, “The cemetery is typically bustling with tour groups and visitors. Yet, one night, as I walked, an uncanny stillness enveloped the air.
“As I reached the halfway point outside, I sensed a presence behind me. I was convinced someone lurked nearby, possibly ready to assail me.
“I turned to confront this perceived figure – but found emptiness. Yet, the presence lingered.
“Ghosts become familiar with you – it’s imperative to instruct them to remain in their realm and abstain from following you. So, I instructed the spirit to stay right where it was.
“As I retraced my steps to my car, the presence gradually diminished.”
The Bonaventure Cemetery possesses its own spectral history and shelters the grave of the evocatively adorned Gracie Watson.
Gracie and her parents took up residence at the Pulaski Hotel after her father assumed the role of hotel manager in the 1800s.
She would frequently entertain hotel patrons in the lobby, swiftly establishing the establishment as one of the finest in the South.
Tragically, Gracie succumbed to pneumonia in 1889, devastating her parents.
In her memory, they erected a life-sized statue that graces her grave. Her family eventually moved to New England, leaving her remains behind in Savannah.
Many claim to have glimpsed Gracie’s ethereal form frolicking in Johnson Square, the site of the Pulaski Hotel, donned in a white dress before vanishing.
Savannah is most famed for the tragic demise of hustler Danny Hansford in 1981.
