Neighbour sends note threatening police action on ‘screaming’ grandchildren next door

A fuming neighbour has reportedly threatened to call the police on the “loud” children’ staying with their grandparents next door, accusing them of “screaming and dragging loud toys and disturbing the peace”

A dad has shared the furious note he claims was handed to his in-laws after his children recently went to stay with them. According to this dad, he and his other half had headed out for a “much-needed date night”, leaving their kids in the care of their grandparents.

However, the following morning, one of the neighbours handed a note over the fence to his father-in-law asking them to “please consider that sound travels”, and accusing the children of making “a lot of noise.” The dad says his children are “good kids”, who “shout but don’t scream for no reason”, adding that people just “need to deal” with the fact that “kids are loud.”

Taking to Reddit, where they go by the username u/Sarcasticman22, the Australian dad shared a screenshot of the note, stating that his mother-in-law was left “very upset” over the incident.

The note reads as follows: “We are all entitled to the ‘peaceful enjoyment’ in our apartments. Today your visitors have been screaming and dragging loud toys and disturbing the peace.

“You live in high-density housing with lots of neighbours. We have kids in our building and they go to the park when they need to make noise. You can too.”

It continued: “I just wanted a nice quiet day in my apartment but can’t have that as your supervision of kids is non-existent. Lack of consideration for others.

“If this continues I will consider contacting strata and police as we are aware of our rights. There is no need for screaming. Thank you. It is our day of rest on Sunday,”

The note has left people somewhat divided. While some felt the message was far too extreme, others sympathised with the neighbour for wanting some peace and quiet on their Sunday morning.

One person wrote: “Kids screaming does suck but this seems extreme if it was a one-off and the kids aren’t actually living there.”

Another commented: “We live in an apartment and have our four-year-old grandson stay over twice a week. It’s the same for lots of apartments around us. We are all aware sound travels so don’t let the grandkids scream, run around loudly or bash things on the ground. It’s common courtesy.

“It’s no different to barking dogs, yelling, loud music, and thumping and crashing. Don’t do it. And stop your guests of any age from doing it either.”
