Netflix Adds Spatial Audio to Over 700 Titles (But It’ll Cost You)

Today, Netflix improved the audio experience for anyone who subscribes to its $20 Premium streaming plan.

Last year, Netflix worked with audio specialist Sennheiser to develop AMBEO 2-Channel Spatial Audio for a “movie theater experience” via directional audio filters. Now that technology is being put to good use across more than 700 Netflix TV shows and movies(Opens in a new window).

If you want to hear it in action on the streaming service, check out the video below:

The sound enhancement is achieved without requiring surround sound speakers or home theater equipment, which also means it works regardless of whether you are watching on a TV, computer, tablet, or phone. However, you’ll need to be paying $19.99 for the Premium plan in order for it to work at all.

To find out which titles include support, simply enter “spatial audio” into the Netflix search bar, or look for the spatial audio icon next to a title. Spatial audio is available in some of Netflix’s most popular shows, including Stranger Things, The Watcher, Wednesday, and Knives Out: Glass Onion.
