Netflix is reportedly expanding its subscriber feedback group to include tens of thousands of users across the world next year.
The streaming service currently relies on some 2,000 early viewers who preview and react to content before it reaches the public. However, as noted by The Wall Street Journal(Opens in a new window), tens of thousands of Netflix’s 223 million subscribers will be invited to join the exclusive Preview Club early next year.
Quietly launched last year in an effort to improve original shows and movies ahead of their streaming debut, the group previously reacted to 2021 apocalyptic satire Don’t Look Up, suggesting the film’s creators dial up the comedy for a broader appeal.
In the Hollywood tradition of focus-group testing, Netflix Preview Club members watch various upcoming films and series over the course of about six months, according to Variety(Opens in a new window), which first reported on the screenings in May. Folks then fill out a survey about what they did and didn’t like, possible improvements, and the likelihood of recommending it to friends and family.
Participants must sign a nondisclosure agreement, promising to keep all details about what they’ve watched secret until its public release. It’s unclear how one gets summoned to the panel; Netflix told Variety that it selects people who “represent a range of perspectives.”

Netflix has long used A/B testing among members, showing one subset a new feature or tool, but not others, and comparing results; previous assessments cover everything from title thumbnails to payment plans. The company also provides all employees with early access to content, collecting data on their viewing habits to determine what could be a hit.
