Well, this could get awkward.
A month-and-a-half removed from his trade request, Kevin Durant remains a member of the Nets. The two-time NBA Finals MVP has made it clear that he doesn’t want to be on Brooklyn’s roster when the 2022-23 season begins, but general manager Sean Marks isn’t close to finalizing a deal.
Kyrie Irving, meanwhile, is waiting for the Durant domino to fall. The seven-time All-Star is under contract with the Nets for one more year after accepting his player option during the offseason, but he could be moved if they send Durant to another team.
Until the Nets actually pull the trigger, though, their dynamic duo is stuck in Brooklyn. If Durant and Irving choose to play — a Ben Simmons-esque holdout can’t be completely ruled out — when will they face the teams that have been interested in acquiring them?

Multiple league executives told The Athletic’s Sam Amick that they consider Boston the “unofficial frontrunner” in the Durant sweepstakes, but The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach recently reported that the Celtics are “not close to a deal.”

The Nets have “displayed little interest” in the Heat’s offers, according to the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson and Anthony Chiang. Brooklyn has shown interest in Bam Adebayo, but Miami hasn’t included the 25-year-old big man in its offers.
(It’s also worth noting that the Nets can only acquire Adebayo if they trade Ben Simmons because of an NBA rule regarding players on designated rookie extensions.)

When will Kyrie Irving play against teams involved in trade rumors?
Lakers
Irving has only been consistently linked to the Lakers. He would be a terrific fit next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but there are still big hurdles to clear in negotiations between the two teams, including how much draft compensation the Nets would receive in a deal.
