Gardner Minshew takes over for Patrick Mahomes this week for the Kansas City Chiefs and may be without one of the team’s top offensive weapons.
Receiver Rashee Rice entered concussion protocol this week and did not practice Wednesday or Thursday. Kansas City visits the Tennessee Titans in Week 16.

Fellow receiver Tyquan Thornton is also in concussion protocol and has yet to practice this week.
“Those things happen, and we’ll just see where it ends up going,” head coach Andy Reid said.
Rice’s injury occurred in the third quarter of the Chiefs’ 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Rice suffered a brutal blow from Los Angeles Chargers safety Tony Jefferson, the latest in a series of hard hits the standout wideout has sustained in recent weeks.
Rice stayed down after the play and ultimately went to the Chiefs’ medical tent, where he then emerged with his helmet.
Although Rice went back in the game and finished with seven receptions for 51 yards in the three-point defeat, the symptoms he reported Monday landed him in the concussion protocol.

Rice leads all Chiefs wide receivers with 53 receptions and 571 receiving yards. Plus, his five touchdowns are tied for the team high.
Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins remains in concussion protocol after reporting symptoms following their loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 14. Higgins was limited in Thursday’s practice and has not been a full participant in over two weeks.
Higgins missed Week 13 due to a concussion, cleared protocol but then re-entered protocol after the Bills game.
Other notable Week 16 injuries:
-
The Green Bay Packers have listed receiver Christian Watson and running back Josh Jacobs as questionable for Saturday’s game against the Chicago Bears. Watson was taken to a Denver hospital during their loss to the Broncos on Sunday, but returned to practice on Wednesday and Thursday and said he was likely to play. Jacobs, meanwhile, has been dealing with a sore left knee for over a month. He did not practice this week, putting his availability in doubt.
-
Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was a limited participant in Thursday’s practice after returning from a concussion. Running back Javonte Williams was limited with a neck injury. Wideout CeeDee Lamb did not practice due to an illness. The Cowboys host the Chargers on Sunday.
-
Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt missed practice again Thursday due to the lung issue he’s been dealing with. Watt suffered the injury during a dry needling treatment at the team facility last week. With Watt missing another practice, it does not seem like he’ll play against the Detroit Lions.

Geno Smith looks like he will return for the Las Vegas Raiders for Sunday’s game against the Texans.
The Raiders quarterback was back at practice on Wednesday after sitting out last week’s 31-0 loss to the Eagles with a right shoulder and back injury.
“I’m just taking it day by day, trying to see how I feel today after practice, and then we’ll move on from there,” Smith said.
