The Nintendo Switch is designed to play games, but a new app turns it into a “surprisingly small personal computer.”
As IGN reports(Opens in a new window), it’s called nOS new Operating System(Opens in a new window) and adds the ability to use your Switch for a range on non-gaming tasks. Once installed, you’ll gain access to a notebook for writing, a paint program for drawing, a calculator, gallery, and a to-do app for making lists. There’s also a simple picture jigsaw puzzle game to play.
Unfortunately, there’s no web browser, but you can multitask by opening multiple windows and there are customization options. It certainly counts as an easy introduction to using an operating system without any of the dangers that come with accessing the internet or dealing with malicious software.

nOS has the potential to be very popular because it’s so different. Parents will also quickly see the benefit of allowing their kids to use an app that lets them draw and write, while also offering an easy introduction to organizing themselves. It helps that the $39.99 app is on sale for just $1.99 until Feb. 16.
