During the festive period, when you’re decorating at home, the likelihood is you probably opt for a ‘traditional’ tree of some sort – whether it be real, tinsel, or plastic. One woman has taken her love of reading to the next level, however, as she’s made her Christmas tree out of books – and people are amazed at her level of dedication.
In the caption, the BookToker and Bookstagrammer Katie Fulton, who posts under the username @needabiggerbookshelf, wrote: “While I have done a book tree for four years, I decided it was finally time to document the process!” She followed it up with hashtags including #BookishChristmasTree and #WeWishYouAMerryBookmas.
The video showed Katie making a base out of books for the Christmas tree, piling them up so they would balance in a circle. As she continues to add books from her hefty collection (we wonder whether she’s read them all?!) she begins to make the structure thinner and thinner as she works her way to the top of the tree.
When Katie is halfway up the tree, she begins to add fairy lights for a magical and cosy feel. She then continues to add books until it reaches a peak.
At the end of the video, Katie places a star at the top of the tree – and it looks amazing, hence her 1.8 million likes on the video.
People were in awe of the tree, with one TikToker writing: “Okay every library and bookstore needs to this!”
Another referred to the adorable cat that could be seen briefly in the video, joking: “There is no way you own a cat”, followed by crying with laughter faces.
“Omg it’s a need not a want”, someone else commented.
“Ugh I am about 400 books short, damn!”, another added.
In the comments, Katie also confirmed how she makes the tree so sturdy, writing: “I separate them by width and then keep a consistent width on each level!”
