Packers vs. Buccaneers live score, updates, highlights from Tom Brady-Aaron Rodgers showdown

Aaron Rodgers vs. Tom Brady. Need we say more?

Two of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history square off on Sunday, as Rodgers and the Packers travel to Tampa to take on Brady and the Bucs.

It’s just the fifth time the legends have faced each other as starters in their long careers, with the last meeting coming in the 2021 NFC Championship game (the Bucs won, 31-26). Brady holds the edge in the head-to-head record between the two, leading 3-1.

Tampa Bay enters the game sitting at 2-0 after wins over the Cowboys and Saints. However, they’re coming off a Week 2 win in New Orleans that wasn’t exactly pretty. The game was tied 3-3 heading into the final quarter before the Bucs finally pulled away late.

Brady has been solid, if unspectacular, so far in his 23rd NFL season, with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception through two weeks. He’ll be missing one of his favorite targets on Sunday, though, as Mike Evans was suspended one game for his involvement in a scuffle against the Saints.

Meanwhile, the Packers bounced back with a win over the Bears last Sunday after a miserable season-opening loss to the Vikings in Week 1. Rodgers has once again struggled to get on the same page with his young receivers so far this year, but he’ll be hoping to buck that trend to leave Florida with a 2-1 record.

Packers vs. Buccaneers live updates, highlights from Week 3 matchup

(All times Eastern.)

5:18 p.m. — More offensive penalties for the Bucs. It’s been a sloppy start for them since the opening drive. Two false starts push them back, before the Packers sack Brady on 3rd and long. Jake Camarda boots the ball back to Green Bay once again.

5:15 p.m. — One note about this afternoon’s game: it is absolutely sweltering in Tampa Bay. The official temperature is hovering around 90 degrees, and it feels even hotter on the field. It’s going to be a grueling day for these players.

5:13 p.m. — Rodgers has started this game 12/13 for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns. Safe to say he’s ironed out some of the issues that plagued the Packers’ offense early this season.

Packers 14, Buccaneers 3

5:10 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Rodgers is on FIRE. He throws another strike to Lazard who hangs on for another Green Bay touchdown.

5:09 p.m. — Green Bay has the ball in the red zone once again. Rodgers connects with tight end Tyler Davis, who rumbles to the 6 yard line.

5:07 p.m. — Facing 3rd and 6, Rodgers again moves the chains with a completion to Allen Lazard. The Packers’ offense is rolling so far.

5:04 p.m. — Rodgers and Brady have combined for 14 straight completions to start this game. Don’t forget to appreciate the greatness on display today — it won’t last forever (even if it sometimes seems that way).

5:01 p.m. — Some confusion leads to Green Bay taking another timeout to avoid a delay of game penalty. They’ve already had to use two timeouts just a couple minutes into the 2nd quarter. Head coach Matt LaFleur won’t be pleased with that.

4:59 p.m. — Tampa dials up a blitz on 3rd and 8, but Rodgers is able to dump if off to Robert Tonyan to move the sticks.

End of first quarter: Packers 7, Buccaneers 3

4:51 p.m. — Brady retakes the field, but a holding penalty puts the Bucs behind the 8-ball on the ensuing possession. They go three-and-out and have to punt the ball away.

Packers 7, Buccaneers 3

4:44 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Rodgers zips one to Doubs, who fights to break the plane and score his first career NFL touchdown. A fantastic opening drive from the Packers’ offense.

4:41 p.m. — Big play by the veteran Randall Cobb, breaking free for a 17-yard gain on 3rd down. The Packers have it in the red zone for the first time.

4:39 p.m. — Rodgers and the Packers offense take the field for the first time, and they quickly move into Bucs territory. Rodgers finds rookie receiver Romeo Doubs for a big gain.

Buccaneers 3, Packers 0

4:35 p.m. FIELD GOAL — The Bucs enter the red zone after another Brady completion to Kyle Rudolph. But the drive sputters out after the Packers get a big sack on 3rd down to force a field goal, which Ryan Succop knocks through.

4:30 p.m. — Fournette gets stuffed on 3rd and short to bring up 4th down for Tampa. They go for it, and Brady finds his new teammate Cole Beasley to move the chains.

4:28 p.m. — On the first play from scrimmage, TB12 hits Breshad Permian for a big gain. The Tampa offense is on the move.

4:27 p.m. — Brady and the Bucs get the ball first and we are underway from Raymond James Stadium.

4:24 p.m. — Just moments away from kickoff in Tampa. Who will come out on top in this battle of two legendary quarterbacks?

4:15 p.m. — Aaron Rodgers is also out getting loose in Tampa ahead of kickoff. He’ll be going head-to-head with Brady today for the fifth time as a starter.

4:03 p.m. — Tom Brady is rocking quite the look today in pregame warmups.
